Displaying Danish competencies within sustainability and energy efficiency
A delegation from the Italian political party Movimento 5 Stella (M5S) paid a visit to EnergyLab Nordhavn as part of their trip to Copenhagen this week. The purpose of the visit was to get an introduction to how we do things in Denmark when it comes to sustainable energy. The meeting took place on top of By & Havns P-hus Lüders where the delegation was introduced to both the recently installed battery, flexible district heating and electrical transportation.
Before coming to Nordhavn the delegation visited Morten Kabell, Mayor of Technical and Environmental Affairs and also made a stop at Christiansborg to meet with the political party Alternativet.
The delegation from Italy is only one of many visitors that EnergyLab Nordhavn has welcomed since the project started almost two years ago. Especially the past year has seen a significant increase in interest from abroad.
“One of the purposes of EnergyLab Nordhavn is to showcase the many competencies of Danish companies and organizations. Denmark is front runner when it comes to sustainable energy and with the goal of becoming the world’s first CO2 neutral capital, Copenhagen gets a lot of attention”, says Christoffer Greisen, Project Manager, EnergyLab Nordhavn.
Our chance to make an impact on foreign energy legislation
The delegation from M5S includes both members of the Italian Parliament and the European Parliament. Visiting Copenhagen is part of their preparation for introducing a political proposal regarding sustainable energy solutions to the Italian Parliament. More precisely, they are looking for best practice within energy and environment.
“We are pleased to see the increased interest in EnergyLab Nordhavn. But we also see the attention as a definite sign that sustainable energy is high on the agenda all over the world. We therefore gladly share our experiences and knowledge with delegations from both Denmark and abroad”, Christoffer continues.
Smart City projects, smart grid and battery storage appear all over the world. However integrating a battery in the grid in an urban environment in Nordhavn is quite exceptional. What makes EnergyLab Nordhavn truly unique and makes the project stand out is the focus on how to integrate several already existing energy systems, like electric power and heating into one intelligent, flexible and optimized energy system.
“Not only can we present some of the newest and most innovative smart city solutions we also have a best case example of how partners from different industries and sectors can work together developing and demonstrating future energy solutions”, Christoffer concludes.
Following the visit in Nordhavn the delegation continued to DTU, Center for Electric Power and Energy to get a presentation of PowerLabDK.
About EnergyLab Nordhavn
The project “EnergyLab Nordhavn – new urban energy infrastructures” will develop and demonstrate future energy solutions. The project utilizes Copenhagen’s Nordhavn as a full-scale smart city energy lab and demonstrates how electricity and heating, energy-efficient buildings and electric transport can be integrated into an intelligent, flexible and optimized energy system. The project participants are: DTU, City of Copenhagen, CPH City & Port Development, HOFOR, Radius, ABB, Balslev, Danfoss, CleanCharge, METRO THERM, Glen Dimplex and the PowerLabDK facilities. The project is supported by EUDP (Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme) and runs from 2015-2019.
